Do not write anything in the MEMO area of the check. If you wish to designate your offering, such as for a special need, a conference registration, or the like, attach a note or indicate the desgination on the envelope with your offering inside. Per IRS rules, your check cannot have a designation to any individual in the ‘Memo’ area. Designating a check to a specific person violates IRS rules and the check will need to be returned to you.
