the church in Baton Rouge

The church in Baton Rouge applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a Contruction Permit (CP) to build and operate a low-power FM station (LPFM). LPFMs are awarded only to not-for-profit organizations and may operate at a maximum power of 100 watts. LPFMs have a broadcast radius of between 3-5 miles and covers between 28-79 square miles. Our application to the FCC proposed a transmitter location on Mancuso Dr, just off of Essen Lane near Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. From that location, it is estimated that our broadcast signal could reach an estimated 128,500 persons.

On February 7, 2024, the FCC approved our application. On February 15, 2024, the FCC granted our request for call letters WVGE-LP. Once a CP is granted, the awardee had 36 months to build their station, prepare their broadcast content and apply for their operational license. Called a License to Cover, once granted the license is good for eight years and can be renewed at that time.

Our station must be operational on or before February 7, 2027. And there is a LOT to be done before that.
